Attendance policy

All students who are enrolled at school, regardless of their age, are expected to attend that school whenever instruction is provided. Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. Encouraging regular attendance is a core school responsibility.

Every day matters

Attending school every day gives your child the best opportunity and access to a wide range of learning, wellbeing and social connections. Each day of school builds on what was learned the day before. Your school is here to support you in getting your child ready and motivated for school every day.

When your child is absent, inform the school and provide a reason within 7 days. Notify the school in advance if you know your child will be absent. This helps make sure schools know where their students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.

Did you know?
If your child misses as little as 1 day per week, they will miss 8 weeks of school per year, which adds up to over 2.5 years missed over their school life.

Parents and Carers

Parents and carers are legally responsible for ensuring that their children who are enrolled at school attend regularly.

Parents and carers are required to explain their children’s absences in writing with a signature, or by email, promptly to the school.

Unexplained lateness or absence results in an SMS message being sent to parents / carers / guardians' mobile phone on the day.

To avoid receiving an SMS, parents should notify the school of any lateness, partial or whole day absence before 9:00 am by sending an email, or providing a written letter signed by the parent/carer, to be handed to the roll call teacher or front office. Parents can also respond to the SMS absence notification.

Please include the student's full name and year and provide any supporting documents, such as a medical certificate.

Early leavers

If a student knows in advance that they have to leave the school during school hours, they must bring a signed permission note from a parent / carer and hand it to their roll call teacher (or the front office if they arrive after roll call).

An email may be sent from parent/carers but must be received by the school prior to 9:00 am. All requests are collated and sent to the Deputy Principal/s for approval before they leave their offices for class. If approved, you must collect your early leave pass from the front office at the time you need to leave the school. You will be notified if approval is not given.

If the early leave request is on the day of an excursion, you must arrange this prior to that day, so teachers are notified before the excursion commences and slips can be arranged.

Extended leave

If an extended period of leave is necessary, parents must request leave from the principal, in writing, at least one week prior to the leave, by completing the below form.

Supporting documentation is to be included (e.g. copy of itinerary for travel or plane ticket showing departure and return to Sydney). If a student is engaging in a Student Exchange program, relevant documentation must also be provided.

International students must use a different form available from the front office.

Please note if you are going on exchange as part of a Department of Education approved program, you must attach your approval from the organisation to your extended leave form.

Need to access school services from overseas?

This form is for a parent, legal guardian, or approved supervisor to request permission for a student to access school materials and online platforms while overseas.
