NAPLAN Commences

NAPLAN Commences Years 7 and 9

NAPLAN Commences for Years 7 and 9

Dear Year 7 and Year 9 students, parents, and carers,

Each year, the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy.

NAPLAN 2025 will take place from Wednesday, 12 March to Monday, 24 March 2025. Please ensure the correct browser has been installed and updated.

These tests are diagnostic tools to examine a variety of basic literacy and numeracy skills. We use these tests to determine where individual students and classes need the most help. Students do not need to study for these tests, as they are assessing basic skills.

All NAPLAN tests are completed online. The schedule for the tests is as follows:

Year 7:

  • Wednesday, 12 March: Period 1 (Writing)
  • Thursday, 13 March: Period 3 (Reading)
  • Friday, 14 March: Period 1 (Conventions of Language)
  • Tuesday, 18 March: Period 3 (Numeracy)

Year 9:

  • Wednesday, 12 March: Period 3 (Writing)
  • Thursday, 13 March: Period 1 (Reading)
  • Friday, 14 March: Period 3 (Conventions of Language)
  • Tuesday, 18 March: Period 1 (Numeracy)

Catch-up tests for students who are absent on these dates will be scheduled from Wednesday, 19 March to Monday, 24 March.

Students MUST:

  • Have a laptop with them each day.
  • Charge their laptop each night. There is no provision for charging in the hall.
  • Bring headphones to listen to the questions. The school is unable to lend headphones.
  • Install the lockdown browser before the tests. We will be checking each student's device.
  • Use the same laptop for each of the NAPLAN tests.

If there are any technical issues, we will try to help you out.

Lockdown Browser Installation:

As students will be completing NAPLAN tests on their own devices, they will be required to install a lockdown browser which prevents accessing other programs while completing the tests.

We are asking that students download this lockdown browser while at home. We will then troubleshoot any problems at school.

Please follow these instructions and see the attachment to install the browser.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS FIRST - before actioning them:

  1. Go to: Locked down browser | Online National Assessment Platform
  2. Scroll down and download the Windows or Mac version, depending on your device. Chromebooks are not to be used. Students with a Chromebook will be sent to a school computer room.
  3. Go to the downloads folder on your device and install the downloaded file.
  4. Find and run the NAP Locked-down browser application.
    • For Windows: Click on the Start Menu in the bottom left-hand corner of your desktop and type 'lock'. If you have installed it correctly, it will come up!
    • For Apple Mac: Go to Finder, and type "lock". If you have installed it correctly, the browser will come up.
  5. From this point on, you will not be able to see these instructions, so we hope you have read them first!
  6. Click on the X in the bottom-right corner to leave the application.
  7. Click on "Device check (without login)".
  8. Click on "NAPLAN 2025".
  9. If you can hear the sound, click on "I can hear the sound on headphones."
  10. If you can see the image of a hat, click on "I can see the image of the hat."
  11. If it says "You are good to go!" then that means everything is working. Yay!

There will be a troubleshooting session with students on:

  • Monday, 10 March 2025 - for Year 7
  • Tuesday, 11 March 2025 - for Year 9
