Dance Program
The school's co-curricular dance program is designed to celebrate the talent of our students and encourage those who love dance to develop their skills, confidence and abilities.
The dance program provides students with internal and external performance opportunities, raising the profile of dance within the school and wider community. In recent years, these performances have included:
Our dance program philosophy
Our philosophy at Burwood Girls High School for the co-curricular dance program is to:
- Promote involvement in dance
- Engage students in a fun, encouraging way
- Provide opportunities for performance in dance both within the school and wider community
- Apply the syllabus in the development of dance works that reflect the outcomes of the NSW 7-12 Dance Syllabus
- Develop a willingness to aim for excellence in dance teaching, choreography and performance amongst dance students, teachers and choreographers.
Expectations of students
Successful students will be given a permission note and dance contract, which must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the school. The permission note will detail:
- The ensemble the student has gained entry into
- The rehearsal times and venues
- The name of the dance teacher
- Costing to be paid by parents/carers
- Uniform to be worn
COMPULSORY DATES THAT INCLUDE ALL ENSEMBLES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- Monday 22 May - Term 2, Week 5 - Dance Photos (School hours)
- Wednesday 30 August – Term 3, Week 7 - Showcase Technical/Dress rehearsals (school hours).
- Thursday 31 August – Term 3, Week 7 - Matinee and Evening performances (11:00am and 6:30pm).
